YPP Wind Symphony
Dr. Nancy Beitler, Music Director
The YPP Wind Symphony is a youth band comprised of woodwind, brass and percussion students from the sixth through ninth grades. Students receive instruction in the full ensemble as well as in sectional rehearsals with coaches for their instrument group. They will also receive guidance in rehearsal from Mentors, advanced student instrumentalists from the Young People’s Philharmonic orchestra. The season runs from September through May and rehearsals take place on Wednesday nights from 6:30 to 8:30pm.
Performing contemporary wind literature as well as works from the traditional American Band era, the Wind Symphony promotes high quality musicianship, excellence in performance and strong leadership skills. The students receive instruction that will support and supplement their school programs as they work in an encouraging environment to meet the challenges presented by the Wind Symphony’s advanced repertoire.
Each semester will culminate with formal concerts in December and May. The students in the YPP Wind Symphony will also take part in a School Tour, where they spend the day traveling to area schools to share their passion and talent with their peers. Performances will also be held for community audiences.
